Any professional carpet cleaner or carpet manufacturer will tell you, vacuuming your carpet regularly is the single most effective way to prolong the life of your carpet. Most of us know this, but we may not know what kind of vacuum to purchase. There are a ton of options out there. Some really expensive, others not so much. At Drycon, our standard advice has been to recommend buying whatever vacuum you are most likely to use! After all, what is the point of a $2,000 vacuum if it’s too bulky and awkward to get out of the closet and actually use. Below is some great advice from a retired vacuum repair technician that is a frequent contributor to Reddit (u/ touchmyfuckingcoffee ). For a link to the full AMA on this topic check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/adiidz/iama_reddits_own_vacuum_repair_tech_and_ive_lost/ Dollar for dollar, a bagged vacuum, when compared to a bagless, will almost always: Perform better (Actual quality of cleaning). Be in service for much longer. Cost less to repair and maintain (Often including consumables). Filter your air better. Virtually every vacuum professional in the business chooses a bagged vacuum for their homes, because we know what quality is. Things you should do to maintain your vac, regularly: Clear your brush roller/agitator of hair and fibers. Clear the bearing caps as well, if possible. (monthly) Change your belts before they break. This is important to maintain proper tension against the agitator. (~ yearly for "stretch" belts) Never use soap when washing any parts of your vacuum, including the outer bag, duct system, agitator, filters, etc. Soap attracts dirt, and is difficult to rinse away thoroughly. Types of vacs: Generally, canister vacs are quieter and more versatile than uprights are. They offer better filtration, long lifespans, and ease of use. They handle bare floors best, and work with rugs and carpets, as well. Upright vacuums are used mostly for homes that are entirely carpeted. Many have very powerful motors, great accessories, and are available in a couple of different motor styles. Nothing cleans shag carpeting like the right upright. Bagless vacs are available in a few different styles. They rely on filters and a variety of aerodynamic methods to separate the dirt from the air. In general, these machines do not clean or filter as well as bagged vacuums. They suffer from a loss of suction, and tend to clog repeatedly, if the filters are not cleaned or replaced often. Bagged vacuums use a disposable bag to collect debris, which acts as your primary filter, before the air reaches the motor, and is replaced when you fill it. Because this first filter is changed, regularly, bagged vacuums tend to provide stronger, more consistent suction. My last, best piece of advice is to approach a vacuum, like any appliance; Budget for the best one you can get. Buy one with idea you will maintain it, and use it for many years. And, for the love of Dog, do not buy from late-night infomercials or door-to-door salesmen! Stay out of the big-box stores, and visit your local professional who actually knows what they're talking about.

Life doesn’t go easy on carpet. Spills and stains are destined to find their way to your carpet, and often times, at the worst possible moment. Like say, a week after you’ve had a professional carpet cleaning, or right before a dinner party. Yep, it’s a sad reality, but sometimes there’s just no time to call Drycon of Middle Tennessee for a professional carpet cleaning. Fortunately, if you maintain your carpet with regular vacuuming and professional carpet cleaning, you can likely handle an emergency spot cleaning. Check out the following tips for cleaning spots and stains. 1- TREAT STAINS IMMEDIATELY – The longer a substance is on the carpet, the better chance it has of becoming a permanent stain. The clock is ticking! 2- USE A WHITE CLOTH/RAG – The last thing we want is to add to the stain, by color-transfer from a colored cloth. A white wash cloth or shop towel will work. 3- DAB AND BLOT. AVOID SCRUBBING. – Scrubbing a stain can easily drive the substance deeper into the carpet fiber and can spread the stain. Using your clean, white cloth, and working from the outside of the stain towards the center, blot or dab the area to remove as much of the substance as possible before using any type of carpet cleaner. 4- SPOT TEST ANY CLEANING PRODUCTS YOU USE – Most store bought carpet cleaners are perfectly color-safe, but better safe than sorry. Test your product in a small, out of the way area to make sure it doesn’t cause any discoloration of your carpet. 5- ONLY USE ONE TYPE OF STAIN REMOVER AT A TIME – Most of our carpet cleaning customers have some type of store bought carpet cleaners in their home. For a list of homemade carpet cleaners, check out Real Simple’s guide here . Most all carpet cleaners can be effective, but sometimes they don’t play nicely together. Be sure to rinse the area thoroughly before using a different carpet cleaning solution. 6- RINSE THOROUGHLY – After cleaning spots and stains with your carpet cleaner, be sure to rinse the area with water and dab dry with a clean, white rag. Not doing so will leave behind a residue and potentially a new stain. 7- BOOK A PROFESSIONAL CARPET CLEANING – Regular carpet cleaning by Drycon of Middle Tennessee will not only take care of spots and stains, but also help you get the most life out of your carpet.

All-Natural Cleaning Tips Everyone wants to keep their family healthy, but some cleaners have harsh chemicals that can be harmful. Drycon Carpet Cleaning of Middle Tennessee recommends a few easy and practical natural cleaning tips for your home. Lemons You know the old saying, "When life gives you lemons, clean your counter tops!" Use lemons to clean your counter tops by cutting the lemon in half and dipping the lemon in baking soda. Rub the lemon on your counter tops and wipe away with warm water and a sponge. Lemons are also a great way to clean dishes, faucets and cutting boards and mixing lemon juice with cream of tartar is an inexpensive way to clean grout that has been stained by everyday use. Cooking Oils Vegetable oil, olive oil and sunflower oil can be used to diminish scratches and imperfections in the wood in your home. Use olive or vegetable oil combined with equal parts lemon juice to make your own furniture polish. To make your stainless-steel surfaces sparkle and shine, use the oil as a polish and buff. Vinegar Vinegar’s acidic traits work wonders in cleaning mold, mildew and even some bacteria. Use vinegar and warm water to clean just about anything including tubs, showers and even tile amd hardwood floors. Be sure to follow proper vinegar to water ratios for cleaning specific items. You can find hundreds of vinegar based cleanser ideas online. For the best results in cleaning your hardwood floors, contact Drycon Carpeting Cleaning of Middle Tennessee. To keep your hardwood floors looking their best, follow these 8 easy tips from Drycon of Middle Tennessee. Wipe spills up immediately. Accidents are inevitable, but be sure to clean spills quickly to limit staining. Place a mat at outside entrances to reduce the amount of dirt and moisture tracked into your home. Limiting the debris brought in can help preserve your hardwood floors. Keep your pet’s nails trimmed. This helps to avoid damage from scratches. Avoid cleaners that have ammonia, detergents, bleach, polishes, oil soaps, abrasive cleaning soaps, or acidic materials. Sweep, dust and vacuum your hardwood floors regularly, at least once per week. Protect your hardwood floors from direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause discoloration and warping. Use protective padding under the legs of furniture on your hardwoods.
